What Is a Same Day Dentist?

A same day dentist is a dental provider who can see you on the same day you call — often within hours. Unlike scheduling a routine check-up weeks in advance, same day dental care is designed around urgency and accessibility.

At Dr. Fay Hu's practice in Winter Park, same day dentistry encompasses two core areas:

  • Same-day emergency dental treatment for pain, trauma, infections, and urgent problems
  • Same-day restorations using advanced in-office technology like CEREC® — meaning crowns, fillings, and other restorations can be designed, milled, and placed in a single visit

This combination of urgent availability and advanced technology sets Fay Hu General Dentistry apart from most dental offices in the Orlando and Winter Park area.

If you're experiencing any of the following, do not wait. Call our Winter Park office immediately at (407) 349-4835 to be seen as soon as possible:

Common Dental Emergencies We Treat Same Day

  • Severe toothache or sudden tooth pain
  • Broken, cracked, or chipped tooth
  • Knocked-out tooth (dental avulsion)
  • Lost or damaged dental crown or filling
  • Dental abscess or swelling (possible infection)
  • Loose or fractured dental restoration
  • Soft tissue injuries to the gums, lips, or tongue
  • Object lodged between teeth that can't be removed
  • Broken or uncomfortable dentures or dental appliance

Dr. Fay Hu has been in private practice since 1998 and has treated thousands of dental emergencies over her career. Her Winter Park office is fully equipped to handle urgent dental situations with the clinical expertise, advanced technology, and genuine compassion patients need when they're in pain.

⚠️ Important: When to Go to the ER Instead

If you are experiencing difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe uncontrolled bleeding, or facial swelling that is spreading rapidly toward your throat or eye, go to your nearest emergency room or call 911 immediately. These may indicate a serious infection that requires immediate medical — not just dental — intervention. For all other dental emergencies, Dr. Hu's office is your fastest path to relief.

What to Expect at a Same-Day Dental Appointment

  1. Call First — Call (407) 349-4835 and describe your situation. Our team will assess urgency and get you scheduled as soon as possible, often the same day.
  2. Brief Intake — When you arrive, you'll complete a short intake form. As a new patient, you'll also have the opportunity to share any prior X-rays or dental records.
  3. Evaluation — Dr. Hu will examine the affected area, take any necessary digital X-rays or CBCT scans, and diagnose the issue.
  4. Treatment Plan Discussion — Before any treatment begins, Dr. Hu will explain what she found, your options, and any associated costs. You'll never be surprised.
  5. Same-Day Treatment — Depending on your situation, treatment may begin immediately. Many issues — including crowns, fillings, extractions, root canal therapy, and more — can be completed during your first visit.

We also offer complimentary 30-minute consultations and second opinions for patients who want to explore their options before committing to a treatment plan.

Dental Emergencies: What You Should Do Before You Get to Our Office

Knocked-Out Tooth

Time is critical. If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, handle it by the crown (top), not the root. Rinse gently without scrubbing. Try to reinsert it into the socket if possible, or store it in milk or between your cheek and gum to keep it moist. Call us immediately — the sooner you arrive, the better the chance of saving the tooth.

Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water to clean the area. Gently floss to remove any trapped debris. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum — it can cause chemical burns. Over-the-counter pain relievers (taken as directed) can provide temporary relief. Call us right away.

Cracked or Broken Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water. Save any broken pieces. Apply a cold compress to your cheek to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on the affected side. Call our office.

Lost Crown or Filling

You can temporarily protect the exposed tooth with dental cement (available at most pharmacies) or even a piece of sugar-free gum in a pinch. Call us to be seen as soon as possible — exposed dentin is sensitive and vulnerable to further damage.

Dental Abscess

An abscess is a serious infection and should never be ignored. Signs include a severe, persistent toothache, fever, facial swelling, and a pimple-like bump on the gums. Rinse with mild salt water several times a day for temporary relief, and call our office immediately. If swelling is spreading rapidly, go to the ER.
