Wisdom teeth, aka third molars, appear in young adults between the ages of 17 and 25. In most people, this tooth erupts impacted or blocked due to the other teeth around it. If the tooth partially erupts, that means the food particles might be stuck in the gum tissue surrounding, leading to decay or other serious infections. Therefore, Dr. Hu and Dr. Li always recommend their adult patients to undergo a thorough dental evaluation time by time.
The signs that you need to undergo wisdom tooth removal are as follows:
You might face certain oral issues if you don’t get your wisdom teeth removed, such as:
At Fay Hu DMD, our team aim at making your visit as comfortable as possible. At first, the dentist will thoroughly screen the impacted tooth by taking x-rays and scans. This will help the dentist understand the internal structure of the wisdom tooth. He will then discuss with you the treatment plan and the severity of the situation.
Once you are ready to undergo the treatment, the first step involves administering local anesthesia to numb the area to be treated. Then the dentist will make a little slit on the gums to expose the tooth. If the tooth cannot be extracted in one go, then it will be sectioned and removed into smaller fragments. After the extraction, the dentist will advise you to follow some steps for ideal healing.
